The historic Kárpáti Mill, located in Sopronbánfalva, dates back to the 17th century. Its impressive 4-metre-diameter wooden overshot waterwheel was once powered by the waters of the Rák Stream.
The stream's relatively small flow was channelled through an elevated millrace to the top of the waterwheel, where the water filled the paddles and set the mechanism in motion. Thanks to this ingenious engineering solution, even the modest flow of the mountain stream was sufficient to operate the mill.
Today, the Kárpáti Mill offers visitors a fascinating glimpse into traditional milling techniques and the region's industrial heritage, all set in a peaceful forest environment.
