Perched above the picturesque village of Sopronbánfalva, surrounded on three sides by hills, the Pauline-Carmelite Monastery and its church are among the region's most remarkable historical landmarks.
The monastery is reached via a beautiful Baroque stone staircase with 82 steps, built in 1718 by Pauline hermits. Around 1750, the staircase was adorned with 14 stone statues carved from the soft limestone of nearby Fertőrákos, creating one of the area's most distinctive cultural and spiritual attractions.
